About the LCCYC!

The LCCYC is a community choir for students in fourth grade and higher. We are a performance based program that performs in concerts and community events around Livingston County. Your child will learn age-appropriate singing technique and performance skills through fun and exciting choral repertoire. We focus on proper breathing, healthy tone production, and musical expression.

The year is divided into two performance seasons. The fall semester is from September to mid-December. The spring semester is from January to mid-May. We observe most school holidays and will inform you when they will affect rehearsals.

We rehearse on Mondays from 6:00-7:30 pm at Maltby Intermediate School in Brighton.

Registration

The Youth Choir is now a part of Brighton Community Education (BCE).  To register with BCE through the website go to http://www.brightoncommunityed.com/insight/registry/classinfo.asp?courseID=8409&catID=1521. You will need to create an account for the student you are registering by using the "new account" link on the yellow banner at the top of the page.   From the website, you can also find an electronic copy of the catalogue which you can use to print and mail the registration form. 

You may come to the first rehearsal without registering to check out a typical night and see if we are a good fit for your child.  There is no formal audition, just a quick vocal assessment to check range and pitch matching ability.

About Our Director and Accompanist

Carrie Jernigan, director
Carrie Jernigan graduated magna cum laude from Central Michigan University with a Bachelor of Music Education in May of 2009. Her degree includes six years of professional voice training as well as preparation for instructing young vocalists. She has participated in collegiate and community choirs for over ten years and has had several years of private piano instruction.

During college, Carrie received many academic and vocal performance scholarships including the Central
Michigan University School of Music Grant, the Dees Vocal Performance scholarship, and the Yda Lou
Schultz Elementary Music scholarship. In addition to conducting the Youth Choir, she has taught music in area public schools to all grades and ages, and gives private voice and piano lessons at the Expressions Music Academy in Novi.

Diane Ives, accompanist
Diane presently is the full-time accompanist for Howell High School choir under the direction of Rod Bushey.  She teaches private piano students and also serves as pianist for the First Baptist Church of Howell where she is a member.  Diane received her Bachelor of Music degree from Michigan State University and further studied performance and accompanying at Western Illinois University.  She taught vocal music for Howell Public Schools and St. Joseph school in Howell.

Diane and her husband Ken live in Brighton where Ken is a Realtor with the MIchigan Group.  They have three grown children, all of whom love to sing.  Her daughter, Leah, was the grateful first place recipient of the LCC Vocal Scholarship in 2003.
