16th Dr. Marilyn S. Jones Vocal Scholarship Competition
The Chorale continues its commitment to support vocal education and reward some of our finest high school singers financially. There will be three scholarships awarded, $1,000 for 1st place, $500 for 2nd place and $300 for 3rd place. The scholarship money is intended to pay for college music instruction and tuition, voice lessons, or any summer music school. This annual event encourages aspiring singers in their young high school careers and gives them the opportunity to perform and display their talents.
The awards are donated respectively by Dr. Marilyn S. Jones in memory of David Jones, Ralph and Suzanne Lange for the Harper & Virginia Maybee memorial, and the Livingston County Chorale Family..
Some of the qualifications required are that the singers must be a resident of Livingston County or attending a high school in Livingston County, a graduating senior in the current school year and accepted at a college or university no later than June of the current year, or must be a sophomore or junior, who, by the end of the school year would be attending a certified vocal music school for the summer of 2012 (i.e. Blue Lake, Interlochen), or be a student of a certified voice teacher accepted by the Chorale Board.
The 2012 Scholarship competition will be held on Sunday, March 4, 3:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Howell, MI. Students interested in the competition may secure application and recommendation forms from local high school choir teachers or vocal teachers. Applicants must have their forms turned in no later than Friday, Feb. 10, 2012.
